International Council for University Wisdom

Wisdom … Forgotten

The Council’s publication. Each issue takes one question a university leader is facing now and answers it with two books: sixty years of scholarship, read for the university of the future.

Not a review. A recovery.

Between 1965 and today, scholars diagnosed the pressures universities now face: rising demand, shifting purpose, institutions that resist the very reforms they need. Much of that work moved to the margins. Wisdom … Forgotten brings it back into the room where decisions are made.

In every issue, each co-founder takes one book. Not to review it. Not to summarize it. To read it against the question in front of a university leader today. The orientation is always forward; the source is always the past.

  1. One question

An opening note sets the question both books will answer.

  2. Two books

Two essays, one by each co-founder, each closing with a short note on the book itself.

  3. Verified

Every quotation is checked against the page it comes from.

  4. Chosen on merit

Books are selected for their lasting relevance, never for convenience or symbolism.

  5. Two languages

Every issue is also set as a designed print edition, in English and in Turkish.

The archive.

Nine issues and two opening pieces, newest first. Read each issue here in full, or download its designed print edition in English or Turkish.

Recommend a book.

The canon is not closed. If a book changed how you understand universities and deserves to be read again, the co-founders want to hear about it. Readers’ suggestions are considered for future issues and for the book series.

Suggestions go to the co-founders; we reply by email.
